Tonganoxie High freshman Abby Thomas reaches out for the baton as 4x800 relay teammate Lauren Hall approaches. The THS girls won that event and eight others on their way to capturing the team title at the Tonganoxie Invitational on Thursday.
Two meets down. Two team titles.
The Tonganoxie High girls track team won its second team title of the season on Thursday at the Tonganoxie Invitational.
The Chieftains had little trouble doing so, racking up 77 more points than second-place Lansing, and winning nine events.
Impressively, THS earned the top three spots in the discus. Domino Grizzle won and her teammates — Holly Thompson (second) and Jo Kissinger (third) were right behind her.
Grizzle also won the shot put, making her one of two Tonganoxie girls to win multiple individual events. The other was Abby Eisman, who won the pole vault and the 100-meter hurdles.

Jake Willis prepares to take one of his early pole vault attempts Thursday afternoon before he won the event with a mark of 12-6. The Tonganoxie boys finished second at the Tonganoxie Invitational.
Boys finish 2nd
The THS boys (missing key athletes in a few events because of this weekend’s Kansas Relays in Lawrence) finished second at the Tonganoxie Invitational, 12 points behind Piper.
Still, the Chieftains won four events.
As usual, Jake Willis finished first in the pole vault, and Dylan Jacobs got his second first-place finish of the year in the high jump.
The other two victories came in relay races. Willis, Bret Koch, Jeremy Carlisle and DJ Lindsay teamed up to win both the 4×100 relay and the 4×400 relay.
Neither race was close but the 4×400 time of 3:33.15 was more than 10 seconds faster than runner-up Lansing.
The THS track teams will be back in action on Tuesday at the Lansing Invitational, but a few Chieftains — Grizzle, Whitledge, Willis, Lindsay, Carlisle and Koch –will compete this weekend at the Kansas Relays.
