Chieftains lose high-scoring game at Turner

By Mirror Staff Reports - | Apr 21, 2010

A 10-run sixth inning from Turner High cost the Tonganoxie baseball team its first win of the season on Tuesday in Kansas, City, Kan.

The Chieftains saw a three-run lead become a seven-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth and couldn’t recover in a 17-12 loss to the Golden Bears.

Dylan Caywood led THS (0-7) with four of the team’s 14 hits and five RBIs. The senior finished 4-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Jeremy Wagner and Ben Williams chipped in with three hits apiece.

Austin Harkrader, Ethan Lorance, Brandon Yoder and Austin Hrabe all had one hit each.

But pitching was a problem for Tonganoxie as its hurlers combined to allow 11 earned runs in six innings.

The Chieftains — still in search of their first win of the season — are back on the field Wednesday for a 5 p.m. home game at Leavenworth County Fairgrounds against St. James Academy.
