Casino officials release conceptual drawings
Kansas City, Kan. ? Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway is starting to take shape, at least in the design and concept stage.
Officials with Kansas Entertainment, a joint venture between International Speedway Corp. and Penn National Gaming, on Monday released conceptual drawings and a site plan for the new gambling facility, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2012 and overlook Turn 2 of the Kansas Speedway.
Officials said the initial phase of the new facility, budgeted at $386 million, would include a 100,000-square-foot casino floor with capacity for 2,300 slot machines and 86 table games, a high-energy lounge and a variety of dining and entertainment options. Additional project phases including a hotel, expanded gaming space, a spa, convention center and entertainment retail district, have been master planned as well.
Kansas Entertainment was selected by the Kansas Gaming Facilities Review Board to operate a state-run casino in Wyandotte County. The joint venture has one more regulatory hurdle to pass to gain the final go-ahead with the project. On Friday, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is scheduled to consider acceptance of a background report on Kansas Entertainment.
