Saturday’s first round of action begins at 9 a.m.

7:11 p.m. — Well, there’s one more finalist from the area and it shouldn’t come as any surprise that it’s St. James’ Ryne Cokeley. He won his 145-pound semifinal match 14-9.

Now, only Eudora’s Caleb Clayton-Molby (285) is left to compete today.

6:56 p.m. — Basehor’s Symon Seaton (125) has advanced to the championship finals Saturday. He won his semifinal match 3-1.

St. James’ Taylor Moeder (130) won his semifinal match to advance to the finals Saturday evening.

Baldwin’s Josh Hanson (135) lost his semifinal match, but has already earned himself a spot in the top six. He will compete in the consolation semifinals tomorrow, which begin at 12:15 p.m.

St. James’ Ryne Cokeley (145) and Eudora’s Caleb Clayton-Molby (285) will wrestle their semifinal matches soon.

6 p.m. — Baldwin High’s freshman Bryce Shoemaker advanced to the 103-pound finals by defeating Prairie View’s Jace Roy. Shoemaker won by major decision, 8-0. He will face Colby’s Dustin Reed Saturday evening in the finals. Reed entered the tournament 31-2 and Shoemaker was 38-4.

I will update the blog later with all of the first-round consolation results. Along with those, I will give an update of which wrestlers will still be competing tomorrow.

4:38 p.m. — The final qualifier for the semifinal round was Eudora’s Caleb Clayton-Molby (285). He won his second-round match with a pin.

The first round of the consolation brackets are currently going on. Baldwin’s Andrew Morgan (112) and Colby Soden (125) won their matches, along with St. James’ Zach Pollum (135) and Eudora’s Caden Lynch (112).

3:33 p.m. — Three more wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals, while seven others have fallen.

Baldwin’s Josh Hanson (135) won his match 3-2. St. James had two wrestlers move on and both are defending state champions. Taylor Moeder (130) and Ryne Cokeley (145) advanced. Moeder won with a pin while Cokeley won 8-3.

2:45 p.m. — Baldwin’s Bryce Shoemaker escaped his second-round match with an overtime victory. Shoemaker beat Scott City’s Clay Mulligan 2-0.

Neither Shoemaker or Mulligan were able to score an escape point during the second and third periods to win the match, although Mullligan nearly did at the end of the third period.

Shoemaker scored a takedown early in overtime to win. He will now wrestle in the semifinals later today.

The latest winner was Bashor-Linwood’s Symon Seaton (125). He won 8-0 to advance to the semifinals. He dominated his match.

Bashor-Linwood’s Mike Torrez (103) and Eudora’s Tim Wright (125) lost their second-round matches.

1:48 p.m. — Out of the remaining three competitors, Eudora’s Caleb Clayton-Molby (285) was the only victorious wrestler. Clayton-Molby nearly had his Holton opponent pinned, but was reversed and found himself in trouble.

Clayton-Molby escaped and still led the match 8-5. He pinned his opponent early in the third round to advance.

De Soto’s Donny Parr (189) was pinned in the first period. He will wrestle in the first round of consolation matches, along with teammate Cole Cannon.

Eudora’s Boomer Mays (215) lost his first match 7-5. He will also wrestle later this afternoon.

The next round will begin soon after the mats are cleaned. There are 15 area wrestlers that have advanced to the second round.

1:13 p.m. — Three more area wrestlers advance to the second round, which will start at 1:30 p.m. Winning their first-round matches were Rory Haug (152) of St. James, Joe Johnson (160) of Basehor-Linwood and Jermie Maus (171) of Tonganoxie.

Haug won by pin in the third round. Johnson won 5-2, while Maus won 8-2. These three wrestlers will compete later this afternoon in the second round.

Losing their first-round matches were Baldwin’s Will Von Bargen (152) and Heath Parmley (171), along with Eudora’s Tyler Crowe (152) and De Soto’s Cole Cannon (160).

The 189-pound matches just started.

12:22 p.m. — Here’s a quick update of the finished matches since the 112-pound weight class. At 119, Eudora’s Thomas McLees lost 14-0.

In the 125 weight class, Baldwin’s Colby Soden lost 13-1, Eudora Tim Wright won by pin fall, Basehor-Linwood’s Symon Seaton won 5-1 and St. James’ Dustin Vielhauer lost.

At 130 pounds, Taylor Moeder of St. James won, but Tonganoxie’s Tyler Hand and Basehor-Linwood’s Tyler Simpson lost.

At 135 pounds, Baldwin’s Josh Hanson won by pin. Zach Pollom of St. James lost his match. Derek Pike from Basehor-Linwood was beaten 7-4.

Baldwin’s Greg Schiffelbein won his 140-pound match 4-0. Eudora’s Dalton Hladky trailed 2-0 in the third period before scoring a reversal and eventually winning by pin.

In the 145 bracket, two-time state champion Ryne Cokeley of St. James won his first match by technical fall, 19-4.

10:37 a.m. — In the 112-pound weight class, Baldwin and Eudora both lost their first matches of the tournament. Baldwin’s Andrew Morgan was pinned in the second period.

Eudora’s Caden Lynch hung tough with Smoky Valley’s Alex Wolf, who is 36-1, but eventually fell 8-5.

Morgan and Lynch will compete again in the first-round consolation matches, which begin at 3:30 p.m.

10:25 a.m. — Baldwin’s Bryce Shoemaker (103 pounds) pinned his first-round opponent in the first round.

Basehor-Linwood’s Michael Torrez (103) won his opening match 3-2 and will advance to the quarterfinal round later today.

Saint James’ Nick Mancuso (103) lost his first match 6-0.

9:55 a.m. — Hello everybody and good morning from the Bicentennial Center in Salina. I just arrived and got everything set up for the first day of the Class 4A state wrestling tournament.

The annual parade of champions just started. Each team walks around the arena, being led by last year team champion, Coby. I have to admit, the officials chose a good song to start the day off with, ACDC’s “Thunderstruck.”

Well, the action is about to begin. I’ll try and keep this updated as much as possible, but it could be tough with 30 wrestlers from six area schools, especially during the lighter weight classes.
