Maus was THS statistical leader
When Tonganoxie High senior wrestler Jeremie Maus had his hand raised as the fifth-best 171-pound grappler in Class 4A Feb. 27 at the state tournament in Salina, the Chieftains’ 2009-10 season officially closed.
Not surprisingly, Maus finished the year as the team’s leader in nearly every statistical category.
Maus, who completed his senior campaign with a 40-7 record, led THS in wins, takedowns (77), reversals (13), three-point near falls (seven), two-point near falls (10) and pins (25).
The only category in which Maus didn’t lead was escapes. Junior Justin Soetaert (125) led the team with 45 escapes.
Of course, the statistical leaders might have looked a little different for Tonganoxie had sophomore Caleb Himpel (125) not been sidelined for the final six weeks of the season with a groin injury.
