The Tonganoxie City Council will have a workshop to discuss what should be included in a request for proposals for a land-use study of the Leavenworth County Road 1 corridor.

The Leavenworth County Commission has requested a joint meeting to resolve the differences in the RFP drafts developed by the city and county. The county’s RFP would have the consultant focus on recommending future land uses while the city’s recommendation would add details on such things as development standards and infrastructure costs.

Councilman Jason Ward, who with Councilwoman Paula Crook has negotiated CR1 issues with the county, told his fellow council members Monday the city’s suggested RFP was achievable with the $50,000 available. The county’s view was to learn what would be developed first, but he said a study that provided some of the infrastructure and cost details would be “the best of both worlds.”

It was agreed the council should review the issues at a 6:30 p.m. Monday workshop to develop a unified voice before meeting with the county commission.

The council tabled for two weeks a request for proposals seeking to find a private partner or partners to join in the development of the 237-acre business park in the CR1 corridor. Last year, the city purchased and annexed the property.

The proposal requires private developers submit proposals with minimum building densities and projected jobs, demonstrate the experience to carry out a project of the scope envisioned and put up capital.
