McLouth softball works quickly to reach 10-0

By Mirror Staff Reports - | Apr 19, 2011

It only took eight innings Monday night for the McLouth High softball team to sweep Atchison County and maintain its undefeated record.

The Bulldogs disposed of the Tigers, 10-0, in just five innings in Game 1 before cruising to a three-inning, 15-0 victory in Game 2.

MHS coach Ballard Patterson, who watched his team improve to 10-0 on the season, was pleased to see everyone hit the ball well against Atchison County (7-3), which came in with just one loss.

“Offensively, it was our best night, by far. The better they pitch, the better we do, hitting,” Patterson said, noting the Tigers had two quality sophomore pitchers who threw hard.

McLouth senior Kaitlyn Sparks led the barrage with a 5-for-6 evening that included three doubles and six RBI.

Both Kendra Leach and Kaley Patterson went 4-for-6 in the sweep. Conner Patterson was 2-for-4, Jessie Troupe finished 2-for-5 and in just two plate appearances, Katrina Thummel went 2-for-2, hitting a pair of doubles.

Kaley Patterson pitched all five innings of Game 1 and struck out 11. Leach pitched Game 2, didn’t allow a hit and fanned seven in three innings.

At 4:30 p.m. on Monday, McLouth plays host to Valley Falls.
