Tonganoxie High grad Baragary receives honors at William Jewell
Austin Baragary has been selected to serve as a Cardinal Host to guests and visitors for the 2011-12 school year at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.
Chosen through a competitive selection process, Cardinal Hosts serve in a high-profile position to help promote greater understanding of William Jewell College, its current programs and its history. It is considered among the most prestigious honors Jewell students can achieve, according to release from the school.
Cardinal Hosts originated during the tenure of First Lady Virginia Field, who served the college with her husband President Thomas Field from 1970 to 1980. Originally assigned to assist in the President’s Home, Cardinal Hosts now function in a variety of roles, including playing host to visitors and dignitaries and interpreting the identity of the college to multiple audiences.
In addition to serving as a Cardinal Host, Baragary, a rhetoric and political communication and international relations major, also is involved in the student newspaper, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Pryor Leadership Program.
Baragary, who will be a sophomore in the fall, also recently received the Hilltop Monitor Newcomer of the Year Award and was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.
A 2010 Tonganoxie High School graduate, Baragary served as an intern at The Mirror during his senior year at THS.
