A 21-year-old Basehor man was taken by air ambulance to an area hospital after being injured in a one-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning on Kansas Highway 92 southeast of Easton.

The driver, a 19-year-old Basehor man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was driving a pickup truck west on K-92 about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday when it ran off the north edge of the road and hit a utility pole wire and a road sign, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office report. The car then entered a wooded area, where it rolled over several times before coming to a stop near 215th Street.

Alexander J. Richardson, the lone passenger, was taken by air ambulance to Kansas University Hospital. A spokesman said the hospital had no record of Richardson as a patient there.

The vehicle’s driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transporting an open container. He was booked into Leavenworth County Jail and then released on bond early Wednesday afternoon.

The report said excessive speed contributed to the accident, as well as alcohol. Richardson and the driver were both wearing seat belts, the report said.
