Red Bulls blank Sporting KC
Sporting Kansas City’s season-opening 10-game road swing isn’t going as smooth as the club had hoped.
KC lost 1-0 Saturday at the New York Red Bulls and is now 1-4-1 in the 2011 campaign. That mark has the squad in last place in the Eastern Conference.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen matched his season high with six saves, including the first penalty kick stop of his MLS career, but Red Bulls forward Luke Rodgers goal in the 22nd minute stood up as the match-winner.
Kansas City outshot New York 13-12 in the match, but failed to find the back of the net.
Sporting Kansas City’s next match is May 14th at the Los Angeles Galaxy at The Home Depot Center.
