THS forensics team finishes 2nd in state tournament

The Tonganoxie High School forensics team placed second overall as a team Saturday at the Class 4A state tournament in Topeka.

The team had several members place at the Kansas State High School Activities Association speech and drama state tournament. Dane Erickson led the team with a state championship in the informative category. Erickson also placed third in oration.

Elliott Brest placed second in humorous solo, while Michael Christensen finished fourth in humorous solo. Brest and Christensen combined for sixth place in duet, the same finish for Brady Field in prose. Halston Field, meanwhile, placed third in informative.

Other students placing were Megan Woods, seventh in informative; Miranda Bontrager, 13th in prose; and Hunter Cook, 14th in extemporaneous speaking.

In addition, team members were Laura Dyster, Parker Osborne, Beth Jobst and Madison Fletcher.

THS coach Steve Harrell said the team also had several students compete at the state festival. Team members had nine “1” ratings, 13 “2” ratings and three “3” ratings.
