Jeffrey E. Jones faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and first-degree reckless endangerment in Wisconsin stemming from an alleged stabbing outside a bar.

Jeffrey E. Jones, 33, Tonganoxie, was taken to Leavenworth County Jail after being arrested at his home April 12 on a warrant from Kenosha, Wis. He was moved May 2 to the Kenosha County Jail and had a preliminary hearing May 3 where his arrest was vacated and cash bond was set at $100,000, Kenosha police Detective Chad Buchanan said.

Buchanan said that the charges include the use of a dangerous weapon.

According to a criminal complaint, Jones is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed a 22-year-old Kenosha man outside a Kenosha bar after attempting to fight the man.

The man was walking home from the bar with his girlfriend, the report states. The 22-year-old had attempted to break up a verbal argument between Jones and another person, according to the 22-year-old’s accounts in the report.

The 22-year-old was stabbed in his neck, chest and left forearm and hand and required treatment of a punctured lung and lacerated spleen, according to reports from the emergency room doctor who treated the man.

Buchanan said Jones appeared to be a longtime Kansas resident.

“I believe from information I have that he’s, for the most part, a lifelong resident of Kansas,” Buchanan said. “Through my investigation I was able to track him down to Tonganoxie.”

Buchanan said he could not comment on why Jones was in Wisconsin at the time of the alleged stabbing.

The charges are felonies and carry a punishment of 12 to 65 years in Wisconsin prison.
