Pitch, Hit and Run competition is Saturday in Tonganoxie
Area youths can take a swing at a national baseball competition Saturday in Tonganoxie.
The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission will be putting on a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition starting at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
Pitch, Hit and Run is MLB’s official skills competition for youths. Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Youths have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at this year’s All-Star Game in July, which will be played at Kauffman Stadium, the home of the Kansas City Royals.
Individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group, will advance to the sectionals.
Advance registration by 5 p.m. Friday is preferred at the recreation commission, 521 E. Fourth St. in Tonganoxie. Participants are required to bring copies of their birth certificates and fill out a registration/waiver form.
