Leavenworth man earns spot in construction contest

By Staff | Jan 17, 2012

A Leavenworth man will compete next week in a construction equipment-operating contest in Las Vegas.

Edward Goetz of Leavenworth will be one of 59 semifinalists from across the United States and Canada competing Tuesday in the Case Triple Threat Rodeo Championship event at the 2012 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas.

Goetz earned a spot in the championship competition by winning a local Triple Threat Rodeo contest at Coleman Equipment in Bonner Springs. He won a $500 prize for his victory there.

In the contest, sponsored by Case Construction Equipment, participants will compete in skill challenges using three different construction machines: a skid steer loader, a wheel loader and a loader/backhoe.

The champion will win a Dodge Ram pickup truck for personal use, as well as a Case compact track loader and a Towmaster trailer for his or her sponsoring company. Goetz, who has operated construction equipment for 14 years, works for Turf Design, Inc., in Olathe.

The Triple Threat Rodeo program raises funds for local Habitat for Humanity affiliates across North America.
