A Tonganoxie High School graduate has received first-year recognition from Emporia State University.

Madison Hunter, a 2011 THS graduate, was honored during the inaugural First-Year Scholars Reception on Feb. 28 at ESU.

The event honored more than 140 first-year ESU students who earned a 3.5 or higher grade-point average in their first semester.

ESU President Michael D. Shonrock addressed the group along with Shelly Gehrke, director of the Student Advising Center, and Jim Williams, associate provost and vice-president for strategic partnerships. Also attending were deans and chairs of programs across campus.
