By Mirror Staff Report - | Mar 27, 2012

The 2011-12 season was a historic one for the Tonganoxie High wrestling team, and the recognition just keeps on coming.

The Chieftains were honored this week for their efforts in the classroom, as the team was named an academic all-state honorable mention by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. THS had a combined grade point average of 3.12 and was one of just 17 Class 4A schools to be recognized.

A pair of seniors was also included on the individual awards list. Caleb Himpel was named first team academic all-state, while Adam Thomas received an honorable mention. Himpel wrestled his way to state in the 126-pound class, while Thomas posted a 17-7 mark in 145-pound action.

Seven youth wrestlers were in action over the weekend at the Kids Club state championships in Topeka. Korbin Riedel and Asher Huseman led the way, going 3-1 and bringing home silver medals. Others who participated included Eli King, Jay Willcutt, Gad Huseman, Jon Kraus and Seth Wolf.
