McLouth baseball rolls in regional opener
McLouth and Pleasant Ridge met twice on the baseball field during the regular season. Monday’s regional opener served as a rubber match, and the Bulldogs won when it mattered most.
No. 3 seed MHS (11-10) cruised to a 10-0, six-inning victory at home to advance to Tuesday’s regional semifinal. Calvin Booth led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in. Wyatt Farris threw six shutout innings against the sixth-seeded Rams (6-13), striking out seven and walking none.
“Our pitching was good; that’s where it started out,” coach Kevin Stewart said. “Offensively, we came out and hit the ball good. That gave us a chance to get some runs early.”
The Bulldogs will take on No. 2 seed Wellsville (13-7) at 4:30 p.m. today in semifinal action at Riverside High School in Wathena. The teams met for a doubleheader on March 29, and the Eagles won both games by scores of 6-1 and 11-3.
“The main thing we have to do is our pitchers have to throw strikes and get ahead in the count,” Stewart said. “If they can do that, then we have a good shot. If not, then we’ll have to score some runs.”
