Turkey ‘recipes’ from Tonganoxie Elementary School second-graders

Roasted turkey is a staple of most Thanksgiving dinners, but for many cooks preparing the bird presents a number of challenges.
Editor’s note: Second-graders in Kendra Schobert’s class at Tonganoxie Elementary School created recipes for how to prepare a turkey. Here are a few of those recipes.
Savannah’s Turkey Recipe
Ingredients:
turkey
Ketchup
1 cup of water
Seasoning spices
Cheese
Meat for inside the turkey
Salt
Carrot
Directions:
Put the turkey on a plate. Put the meat inside the turkey. Cut up the carrots, sprinkle the cheese all over. Then put on the ketchup and then the water. Put the meat inside. Bake turkey for 15 minutes. When it’s done, smash it then eat it.
Emma’s Special Turkey
Ingredients:
Dill weed spice
Salt
1/2 milk jug
1 large onion
1 piece of steak
2 sweet potatoes
Chopped stuffing
Trimmed peppers
1 turkey
Directions:
Put all ingredients together in a pot. Put in oven. Bake for 3 hours. Enjoy!
Abby’s Turkey Stew Recipe
Ingredients:
5 onions
A teacup of sugar
Turkey cut into 1/2-inch slices
10 cut up carrots
Celery
Broccoli
Cauliflower
1 handful of sour cream
Directions:
Put all of the ingredients together in a stew pot for 20 minutes. Let it cool down and then you are ready to eat it!
Emma’s Turkey
Ingredients:
1 turkey
Pepper
1/2-pound of beef
1 loaf of bread
1 apple in the turkeys mouth
1/2 cup of cinnamon
Directions:
Put all ingredients in a big pot and cook for 76 minutes.
Carter’s Stuffed Turkey
First, grab a pan. Put the turkey in a pan. Cut a hole in the turkey. Put 3 red peppers, 2 pieces of ham, 1 tbsp. vegetable oil, and 5 black olives inside the turkey. Crack one egg and put it on the turkey. Put 1 apple in the turkey’s mouth. Put 2 shakes of salt on the top. Bake in the oven for 1 hour.
Mark’s Turkey Salad
Ingredients:
1 turkey
20 eggs
3 tomatoes
1 cup oil
2 cups garlic
21 cups grease
10 cups salad
Directions:
Get a turkey and put it in a pan. Pour the grease on the turkey. Put the turkey in the oven with the garlic and tomatoes. Wait 1 hour. In 1 hour pull it out. With the eggs, make them boiled eggs. Put the salad on a big platter then put the turkey on top. Take the shells off of the eggs and put them in a circle around the outside of the turkey. Then you have a turkey salad.
