ELECTION 2012

Leavenworth County voters can cast their ballots early with satellite voting at three local libraries.

Advance voting can be done from 1-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Tonganoxie Public Library, 303 Bury St.; 1-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Basehor Community Library, 1400 158th St.; and 1-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Linwood Community Library, 19649 Linwood Road.

Leavenworth County residents are eligible to vote at any of the satellite sites, County Clerk Janet Klasinski said. Each voter will need to bring a valid picture identification, such as a driver’s license, passport, student ID or military ID. Voters 65 and older can present an expired ID, Klasinski said.

For residents who can’t make it to one of the satellite sites, advanced voting still is available. Voters can request an advanced ballot by mail or in person at Klasinski’s office in the Leavenworth County Courthouse, 300 Walnut in Leavenworth. A form also can be downloaded at the county’s homepage, leavenworthcounty.org. The application is available by clicking on the link on the right side of the page. Nov. 2 is the final day in which the county election office will mail advance ballots.

Residents who vote in advance are subject to the voter ID requirements as well. Klasinski said voters could either include a driver’s license number on the application or submit a photocopy of a photo ID with the application.

Advance ballots must be returned to the county election office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6. Voters must sign the statement on the advance ballot envelope for it to be counted.

In-person advance voting can be done at the county election office until noon Nov. 5. The office is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Extended hours will be offered until 7 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30 and Nov. 1 at the courthouse, Klasinski said.

Voters who vote in advance are subject to the voter ID requirements as well. Those voting by mail can write their driver’s license number on the application or send a photocopy of a valid ID with the ballot application.
