THS girls, boys lose in tournament semis

By Justin Nutter - | Jan 18, 2013

Shelby Trout drained a three-pointer with 7.5 seconds remaining to propel Chanute past Tonganoxie in Friday’s Tonganoxie Invitational semifinal, 40-39.

The Blue Comets (10-2) led by six points at the start of the fourth quarter, but THS (8-2) used an 11-3 run to take a 39-37 lead with 26 seconds left. Trout connected from the corner on Chanute’s next possession, and a potential game-winning shot by Tonganoxie’s Emily Soetaert bounced off the front of the rim as time expired.

Trout score a game-high 16 points to pace CHS, which will play De Soto in Saturday’s final. Jenny Whitledge led Tonganoxie with 11 points. The Chieftains will play Silver Lake in the third-place game.
