TMS track and field competes at league meet

The Tonganoxie Middle School track and field team received several strong performances at the Kaw Valley League meet on May 1 at Monticello Trails in Shawnee.

Eighth-grader Zac Morgan won the Warriors’ only individual title with a first-place finish in the 400-meter run (1:01.32) and also ran a leg of the champion 4×400-meter relay team. He ran alongside Tyler Water, Zeb Huseman and Chandler Caldwell, winning the race with a time of 4:21.42.

Several Warriors enjoyed second-place finishes at the meet. Austin Boatwright broke his own school record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:15.77.

Other second-place finishers included eighth-graders Nicole Tallent (shot put, 31-4.25) and Cody Parker (discus, 111-7), and seventh-graders Audrey Miller (discus, 77-6) and Huseman (800-meter run, 2:36.16; 200-meter run, 26.21). The seventh-grade girls 4×400-meter team of Emily Hummelgaard, Hope Creten, Alyssa Sharp and Taylor Lee also came in second with a time of 4:38.81.

The seventh-grade boys came in second (86.5) and the girls sixth (41.5), while the eighth-grade girls took third (83) and the boys sixth (39). Complete results are available here.
