Award-winning author to speak at historical society
Lisa Harkrader, award-winning Tonganoxie author and illustrator will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tonganoxie Community Historic Site, 201 W. Washington St., Tonganoxie. Harkrader has written 20 books for children, as well as hundreds of shorts stories.
Her book “Airball: My Life in Briefs” received the William Allen White Award, as well as the Juvenile Literary Award from the Friends of American Writers. It also was named a Kansas Notable Book.
Another of her books, “The Adventures of Beanboy,” also is a Kansas Notable Book and William Allen White Award nominee. The book is about a boy who loves comic books. The book combines her two loves — writing and art — in one project. It’s about a boy who loves comic books. A sequel, “Cool Beans: The Adventure Continues,” is set to be published next May.
