Tonganoxie family continues to be without gas services
A Tonganoxie family continues to wait for results from state officials on gas found underneath its home.
Scott Wogomon and his family, who live in the Jackson Heights subdivision, have been without gas service since Aug. 18 when Kansas Gas Service investigated a gas leak at the home.
The leak was addressed, but in the process, Kansas Gas Service officials found a gas foreign to what they provide beneath the soil of the Wogomon home.
Kansas Gas Service has opted not to turn the gas back on at the home until it’s determined what the gas exactly is.
That means the family has remained without gas service for more than a month.
Kansas Gas Service has informed the family it will not turn gas back on until high levels of methane gas beneath the house, fluctuating between 5-40 percent, are at zero levels.
Two other families have been affected directly by the situation and were invited to meet with city officials, as well as the Kansas Department of Health and Environment recently.
KDHE is continuing to do tests in the area.
Wogomon said Sen. Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, and Rep. Connie O’Brien, R-Tonganoxie, have been working on the matter as well.
