Locals participate in Wreaths Across America at Fort Leavenworth
A Wreaths Across America ceremony took place Saturday at the National Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth.
Several were on hand to celebrate and honor deceased soldiers at the annual event.

Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Erika Rhine-Russell was on hand for the annual Fort Leavenworth that is part of a national tradition to place wreaths at the graves of fallen soldiers.
The Holton VFW Post 1367 Honor Guard shot volleys and then “Taps” was played during the Wreaths Across America ceremony. The Leavenworth High School Jr. ROTC group participated as well. Chiefs cheerleaders also were on hand alongside many community members to help place wreaths as part of the ceremony.

Included in that group was Jake Fahlgren, a sixth-grader at Tonganoxie Middle School. Jake and his father, Jaime, participate in the wreath tradition each year.
Jake also is part of the Civil Air Patrol.
