Tonganoxie Community Historical Society chili supper at Methodist Church moved to Friday due to inclement weather Thursday
A Tonganoxie tradition is making its return, but a day later than originally planned.
The annual Tonganoxie Community Historical Society chili supper and soup feed has been a staple each winter, but the annual event was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.
TCHS originally was going to have its annual chili supper Thursday at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church in downtown Tonganoxie, but the dinner was moved to Friday due to inclement weather Thursday. The chili supper will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday. There also will be a baked potato bar and vegetable beef soup.
The event has been a primary fundraiser for the historical society since the 1980s. But the chili supper has its roots in the soup socials and community dinners that were held in one room schoolhouses and churches and homes and picnic groves over the past 150-170 years. We look forward to the opportunity to see neighbors and friends and share some homemade soup and dessert.
