Tonganoxie City Council approves special permits for upcoming festivals
Updated 3:20 p.m. Aug. 26, 2024: A previous version of this story had the wrong date for the Himpel Hardware celebration.
The Tonganoxie City Council approved various special permits for upcoming festivals and events.
Tonganoxie Recreation Commission will have a fireworks display the night before Tonganoxie Days again this year.
The council approved a fireworks display permit for Sept. 20 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.
Tonganoxie Days, which will be the next day, also will have a special temporary alcohol permit. Alberto Yaluk with 1866 Bar and Grill will provide alcohol for purchase at the event, which is moving back to the Gallagher Park area this year. Children’s games will remain on Delaware Street between Third and Fourth streets.
Himpel Hardware will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Lumber Games celebration Oct. 18. As part of the event, there will be beer from a local brewery served, so organizers requested a special alcohol permit. Activities planned for the special festival are pumpkin carving, facepainting, a lumberjack event, music, food and more. The event will run 5-8 p.m. Oct. 18.
Permits were approved, 3-0, with council members Jennifer McCutchen and Matthew Partridge absent.
