Tonganoxie man found guilty of disorderly conduct
A man who threatened to go to the Tonganoxie Police Station and harm a police officer has been found guilty.
Darren Bennett, 54, of Tonganoxie, was found guilty of disorderly conduct following a “no contest” plea on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Court documents state that on the evening of April 14, 2023, Bennett called an officer with the Tonganoxie Police Department following the arrest of a family member. During the conversation, Bennett was angry and stated, “I am on my way to your station to (expletive) you up!” The officer took the statement as a threat and specifically inquired if Bennett was trying to threaten him. Bennett responded to the officer, saying, “You guarantee I am.”
“Law enforcement officers have difficult jobs; threats like these are inexcusable and illegal,” Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said. “If you’re upset with law enforcement, there are proper ways to handle yourself and to handle the filing of a complaint.”
