Fourth Tuesday program next week at TCHS
The Tonganoxie Community Historical Society’s Fourth Tuesday Program this month will feature a presentation on the topic of a new exhibit at the TCHS campus.
TCHS volunteers Janet Burnett and Joy Lominska will present “A Century of One-Room Schools in Southwest Leavenworth County.” The event will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the TCHS museum. A brief business meeting begins at 7 p.m., with the program to follow.
All are welcome for this free program. Refreshments will be served following the program. Burnett and Lominska are retired educators and long-time volunteers with the TCHS. Their extensive research included interviews with former students of these schools, newspaper articles and photographs. An exhibit about these 27 one-room schools is now on display at Honey Valley School at the historical site at 201 W. Washington. The program will explore what it was like to attend a one-room school as well as the process of preparing the new exhibit.
