Halloween Storytelling evening

Acclaimed storyteller Joyce Slater will be at the Tonganoxie Public Library on Thursday entertain audience members of all ages with ghost stories to celebrate Halloween.

We’ll also have Halloween snacks to enjoy during the stories. This special storytime event will start at 6:30 p.m.

Spooktacular at the library

When trick-or-treating downtown Tonganoxie on Friday for Spooktacular, be sure to stop inside the library for a special “trick” from Miss Katie during her Spooktacular Mad Science.

She’ll also have lots of treats! The fun begins at 6 p.m. and runs through Spooktacular.

Talking about the inevitable

If there is one thing for certain, death happens to everyone.

The topic can be funny, serious, healing, or even informational. Each month the library hosts the Death Cafe, which is an international phenomenon, and was created to demystify the topic of death and open up the conversation. The group meets at 4 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at the library.

Snack, drink tea, and chat about the inevitable!

Day of the Dead celebration coming up

The library is hosting a Day of the Dead celebration on Tuesday evening.

Those who attend will enjoy live traditional music, Mexican baked breads and cookies, and learn more about the holiday with the University of Kansas Latin American Student Union.

There will also be an interactive activity of creating paper marigolds, which are a traditional part of the holiday. The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. The library will also have a public ofrenda table set up from Tuesday through Nov. 2. Anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to leave a loved one’s name in the group remembrance.

Yarn and Fabric Exchange coming up

The annual Yarn & Fabric Exchange is back on Nov. 2!

Those interested in participating can drop off any yarn, fabric or related supplies at the library during open hours on Nov. 1. If you need to donate sooner, you can bring it earlier in the week, or you can also bring the morning of the exchange before 11 a.m. The exchange will be open from 11 a.m.-noon on Nov. 2 for anyone who donated items.

After noon anything still remaining is available to anyone who would like it.
