Fareway Stores, Inc. hosted a groundbreaking ceremony April 1 for a new Fareway Meat and Grocery store in Basehor. It will be the first full-size Fareway in Kansas.

The 21,000 square-foot store, 15790 State Ave., will feature a built-in smoker.

“Today is an exciting day for Fareway as we begin construction on our first full-size Fareway Meat and Grocery store in the state of Kansas,” Fareway CEO, Reynolds Cramer said. “The Basehor community is a perfect match for our newest store where customers can expect the highest quality meat, freshest produce and our commitment to provide them customer service with gratitude.”

A groundbreaking takes place Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the site of a new Fareway grocery store in Basehor.

The new store will provide a full-service butcher counter; farm-fresh produce and to-your-car carryout. The new store will offer FastLanes, a self-service checkout option, and online shopping and curbside pick-up, available at Shop.Fareway.com. A back-up generator will also ensure operations continue without interruption should the store ever lose power.

“As the Mayor of Basehor, I have heard for years about the need for a grocery store in our

community. I am thrilled to have a full-service grocery store coming to town – and not just any

grocery store – I think Fareway Meat and Grocery is the perfect fit for Basehor,”

Mayor Dick Drennon said. “I knew after visiting the store in West Des Moines, Iowa, that Fareway Meat and Grocery shared many of the same values that make Basehor such a great place to live and work.”

Construction is underway with an anticipated grand opening by the end of the year.

More details will be announced soon, according to the release.
