The Tonganoxie Police Department is at Sixth and Church streets.

A two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon on U.S. Highway 24-40 near the Tonganoxie USD 464 Administrative Center led to an arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The accident occurred about 3:20 p.m. Friday.

Tonganoxie police Chief Greg Lawson said officers were notified of a reckless driver heading east on U.S. 24-40 near Casey’s when, moments later, they received word of the accident near the high school campus.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were SUVs, Lawson said. The driver heading east went across the center line and struck the other vehicle, which was heading west on U.S. 24-40.

The driver in the eastbound vehicle, a 66-year-old Lansing man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and aggravated battery. The other driver, a 26-year-old Tonganoxie woman, sustained minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital. Her passenger, a 4-year-old child, was not injured. The aggravated battery charge was due to the woman being injured in the accident.
