Services for Dorothy K. Lawyer, 95, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
Mrs. Lawyer died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Sunset Nursing Center, Concordia.
She was born June 27, 1912, in Lamar, Kan., the daughter of George W. Wiltse and Emma K. Shroyer.
She attended schools in rural Ottawa County and Miltonvale, Kan.
She worked during World War II for the Office of Price Administration; she later worked at Rite-Way Laundry and Modern Cleaners and Hillside Motel. She also was a homemaker and sold Avon products.
She was a member of the VFW Post 588 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was president for two terms, served as 6th District president in 1965 and Department of Kansas president in 1969. She was a charter member and officer of Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1428. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and was involved with Naomi Circle, Senior Women and WELCA. She also was a 4-H sewing leader and belonged to Friendly Neighbors Extension Homemakers Unit and was a former president of A.R.C. and P.T.A.
She married Harry L. Lawyer on May 22, 1929, in Salina. He died Feb. 10, 1965. A daughter, Phyllis Erhardt, a son, John Lawyer, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also died earlier.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Brown, Bonner Springs; a brother, Warner Wiltse, Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Geraldine Bennett, Longmont, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, with a family greeting from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
