James Closser Jr.
Services for James K. Closser Jr., 59, of Edwardsville, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Highland Park Funeral Home and Crematory, 41st Street and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.
Mr. Closser died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Providence Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Closser was a superintendent for L.G. Barcus and Sons Construction Co., where he worked for 25 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart recipient, serving in Vietnam. He also served as a military policeman with the Missouri National Guard. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 168.
Survivors include his wife, Linda K. Closser, of the home; two sons, James K. III, Kansas City, Mo., and Jason, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother, Ocean Reed, Edwardsville; three brothers, John Reed, Kansas City, Kan., Jack Reed, Overland Park, and James Reed, Bath, Maine; three sisters, Barbara Palmer, Orlando, Fla., Renee Please, Easton, and Brenda Bradshaw, Basehor; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home, 3801 State Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66102.
