Services for William Jay Harris, 83, Basehor, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at Charter Funerals, 10250 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Merriam. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Harris died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Providence Place. He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Pomeroy, the son of William Jewel Harris and Mildred Cora Harris. He graduated in 1943 from Washington Rural High School in Bethel.
Mr. Harris was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific, and was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local No. 168 for 62 years. He and his wife retired to Phoenix in 1987 and traveled all around the United States, sightseeing in their motorhome. They made their home in Arizona for 14 years, during which time Bill was employed at American Valet.
His wife of 57 years, Bluebelle Harris, and a daughter, Patricia Elaine Morasch, died earlier.
Survivors include a sister, Bonny H. Ayers; two brothers-in-law, Gene Walker and Bob Vose; four children, Willie Harris, Carolyn Chastain and her husband, Larry Boone, Kenny Harris and his wife, Sharon, and Kristi Wiser and her husband, Rickie; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
