Leonard Zarda

Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard C. Zarda, 67, Shawnee, was Tuesday, Aug. 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee. Entombment was at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa.
Mr. Zarda died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Kansas City Hospice House.
He was born Aug. 5, 1942, the son of Leonard and Josephine Zarda, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Zarda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic School Class of 1960. He served in the Kansas National Guard and was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he participated in the Perpetual Adoration prayers. He was a member of the Pioneers and assisted people with disabilities. He also helped many people lead a clean and sober life through 37 years of sobriety and participation in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carol A. Zarda, Shawnee; three sons, David A., Grandview, Mo., Kenneth R., Kansas City, Kan., and Lawrence P., Overland Park; a granddaughter; two sisters, Joanne (Robert) Mills, Midlothian, Va., and Rita L. (Robert) Wilson, Tonganoxie; and a brother, David P. (Jacqueline), Eudora.
Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee, handled arrangements.
