Services for Harry J. Lewis, retired U. S. Army master sergeant, 86, of Leavenworth, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Lewis died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born July 27, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a master sergeant after service in Europe and in the South Pacific. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
After leaving the military, he worked for several years as manager of Crown Drugstore and was also a supervisor for 20 years at A.A.R.P. Pharmacy. He was a member of the Basehor Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Leavenworth American Legion.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dee Lewis, of the home; two daughters, Robin McDowell (Randy) Leavenworth, and Billie Murphy, Kansas City, Kan.; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
The family will receive friends at the visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home.
