Maryann Stanek

Shawnee — Maryann S. Stanek, 69, Shawnee, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, in Las Vegas, Nev. A memorial visitation and Rosary Recitation was held Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Funeral mass was Monday, Dec. 14, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church; private inurnment followed in the Resurrection Cemetery.
Maryann was born July 15, 1940, in Lorain, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary (Stimac) Novak. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. On Feb. 20, 1971, Maryann married John Stanek in the chapel of Duquesne University.
She was a member St. Joseph Catholic Church, a board member for Silver Blades, was on the National Family Committee for USFSA and was a very active volunteer for several organizations in the Johnson County area.
Survivors include her husband, John Stanek; two daughters, Melissa Stanek, Kansas City, Mo., and Regina Etienne and her husband, Sean, Landstuhl, Germany; brother, Joseph Novak, his wife, Roselyn, Cincinnati, Ohio; brother-in-law, Charles Stanek and his wife, Christa, Bloomington, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to either, Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th Street, Merriam, Kansas 66203 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5901 Flint, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.
