David Travis

A funeral service for David Douglas Travis, 61, Lawrence, was Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services were Wednesday at Maxwell Cemetery, Maxwell, Iowa.
Mr. Travis died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 19, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Ernest Junior and Donna Frey Travis.
Mr. Travis was a graduate of Maxwell Community High School. In 1970, he received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and insurance from the University of Iowa.
Before moving to Lawrence, he was the chairman and president of Kempton State Bank and Trust in Kempton, Ill. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Travis was an Eagle Scout and a former Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 143. He was a volunteer fireman at the Maxwell and Kempton fire departments. He served on the administrative boards at Methodist churches in Maxwell, Kempton and Lawrence.
Mr. Travis was a co-founder of the Maxwell Senior Housing Inc. and president of Kempton Community Boosters. He was a past president of the Lawrence Lions Club.
He married Cheryl Lynn LeRow on Aug. 25, 2001, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Matthew A. Travis and wife Julee, Lawrence; a daughter, Tamara C. Fritchtnitch and husband Michael, Morris, Ill.; two stepsons, Jeffrey A. Shoemaker and wife Dana, Eudora, and Kelly E. Shoemaker and wife Lynn, Linwood; a stepdaughter, Lori Lynn Winfrey and husband Bryan, Eudora; his mother, Donna Travis, Maxwell, Iowa; two brothers, Mark S., Maxwell, Iowa, and Wade K., Pleasant Hill, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, sent in care of the mortuary.
