Donald Turner

Mass of Christian Burial for Donald Bernard Turner, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Private family inurnment services will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.?Mr. Turner died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.?
He was born Sept. 8, 1927, in St. Cloud, Minn., the son of Edward and Francis Brown Turner.?
Mr. Turner was a member of the United States Coast Guard. He owned the Baldwin Nursing Home for many years moving to Lawrence in 1971. He worked for the Lawrence school district until his retirement.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 309 in Lawrence and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.?
He married Rita H. Saatzer on Nov. 26, 1949, in St. Cloud, Minn. She preceded him in death Nov. 13, 1999.?
Survivors include one son, Douglas E. Turner and wife Martha, Southlake, Texas; two daughters, Linda M. Turner and Terri T. Turner, both of Olathe; a sister, Carol Rechtzigel and husband Lou, Slayton, Minn.; two grandchildren, Michael J. and Jamie Dosia; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Lara, Chloe and Lily.?
