Marjorie Cates

Funeral services for Marjorie Ann McAninch Cates, 78, Henderson, Nev., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the De Soto Baptist Church. Burial will be at De Soto Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at her home.
Mrs. Cates was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Gus and Helen McAninch. She attended Oakgrove Elementary School and Turner High School in Kansas City, Kan., and graduated from De Soto High School in 1948.
She worked for Hercules Inc. at Sunflower Army Ammunitions Plant in De Soto. She retired in 1987 after 38.5 years as administration services manager. She also made arts and crafts for 20 years and attended craft shows throughout Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
Mrs. Cates was a member of De Soto Baptist Church and a 50-plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star, De Soto Chapter No. 78 and was past matron in 1962.
She married Harry F. Cates on Sept. 17, 1949, in De Soto. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Frank Cates and wife Jackie, Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter, Cheryl Cates, Broomfield, Colo.; a brother, Bill McAninch, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kristin Singerman and Frankie Cates; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Richard, George and John; and two sisters, Bernice Burnett and Elizabeth Simmons.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the church.
