Wilma Shepard

Funeral services for Wilma Lucille Shepard, 80, Eudora, were Tuesday at First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora. Burial will follow in Eudora City Cemetery.
Mrs. Shepard died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at her home, after a long battle with leukemia.
She was born July 22, 1929, in Jefferson County, the daughter of John M. and Vera Stephens May. She graduated from Effingham High School in 1947.
Mrs. Shepard was a homemaker, and worked at the Kansas University Student Union, Rusty’s IGA and Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
She married Creed J. Shepard on Jan. 24, 1948. They shared 46 years of marriage. He died July 24, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John May; and three sisters, Melba May, Dorothy Courter and Mildred Morris.
Survivors include three sons, Perry Shepard and wife Marie, Little Rock, Ark., Dennis Shepard and Cindi, Denham Springs, La., and Tim Shepard and wife Ronda, Eudora; four daughters, Anita Gail Johnson, San Jose, Calif., Karen Elaine Tyler and husband Norman, Eudora, Julie Ann Hall and husband Don, Holton, and April Christine Shepard, Mission; three brothers, Vernon May, Hamlin, Chuck May, Lawrence, and Bob May, Groves, Texas; three sisters, Donna Courter and Mera Mize, both of Oskaloosa, and Ruth Nading, Marion, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, James and Shane Crady, Amee and Creed Shepard, Sarah Pawlush, Max Shepard, Todd Transmeier, Mindy Neis, Jennifer and Zac Tyler, Cyrus and Chloe Hall, and Emma Shepard; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Mary May; and a niece, Sadie May.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
