Services for James (Jim) S. Watson, 87, Pittsburg, formerly of Tonganoxie, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. The Rev. Verl Strong and Rev. Daryl Gaddy will officiate.
Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie where Tonganoxie VFW Post No. 9271 will provide full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where friends may call after noon Friday.
Mr. Watson died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
He was born July 4, 1922, in Mulberry, the son of Harry and Jessie (Massey) Watson. Jim lived in Tonganoxie for 49 years before moving to Pittsburg in 1997. He was a graduate of Paola High School and attended Iola Junior College.
Jim was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Sergeant.
He married Jean Kramer on Oct. 19, 1946, in Tonganoxie, KS; she preceded him in death Feb. 25, 1997.
Jim worked for Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Coop in McLouth for 27 years and was manager for 24 years. He then worked for First State Bank and Trust in Tonganoxie for 14 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tonganoxie since 1952, the Tonganoxie VFW Memorial Post No. 9271, the Tonganoxie Masonic Lodge; the Tonganoxie Historical Society, the Chicopee Foundation and the Mt. Carmel Foundation.
Survivors include two daughters, Sally Naylor and husband, Joe, of Pittsburg, Nancy Dudek and husband, Steve, of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother Don Watson and wife, Joan, of Tecumseh; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
