Walter Timmons
Services for Walter “Joe” Timmons, 81, of Pittsburg and formerly of Basehor, will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Timmons died Friday Aug. 6, 2010.
He was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Kansas City, Kan., the only child of Walter F. and Edith C. (Tinberg) Timmons. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army in post war Germany. Upon returning from the service, he went to work for General Motors, where he spent 38 years as a welder. After his retirement he worked for the Basehor School District in the maintenance department. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Agriculture Hall of Fame during their annual special events.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Timmons, of the home; three children, Janet (Victor) Turnbaugh Olathe, Neal (Sarah) Timmons, Basehor, and Marilyn (Richard) Bennett, Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; as well as other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service, also at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the National Agriculture Hall of Fame or Special Olympics Kansas, sent in care of the funeral home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
