David Cox
Funeral services for David Eugene Cox, 54, Linwood, were Friday, Aug. 13, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Cox died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, on the family farm from injuries suffered in a farming accident.
He was born Aug. 9, 1956, in Lawrence, the son of Howard E. and Lorene Reetz Cox. He graduated from Linwood High School in 1974.
Mr. Cox earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Kansas University in 1994, and a master’s degree in 2000, also in civil engineering and from KU, while working full time. He was employed by the city of Olathe as a utilities engineering manager for the past 10 years.
Mr. Cox had previously worked for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and also at a private consulting firm in Kansas City, Kan. He also farmed his family’s farm. He spent many years as a Douglas County 4-H project leader of forestry, geology and horticulture.
He married Jodi Creque on Nov. 3, 1984, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Eudora and remained there as a member. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jessica L. Reding and husband Gabriel, Linwood, and Mary Ellen, of the home; two sons, Jacob David and Alexander Eugene, both of the home; his parents, Linwood; two sisters, Marilyn Cox Whitenton and husband Philip, Yuma, Ariz., and Sheri Flory and husband Paul, Baldwin City; and two grandsons.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County 4-H, or to the David E. Cox Memorial Scholarship at Eudora High School for postsecondary engineering students, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS 66044.
