Cora Toevs

Services for Cora Ruth (Adams) Toevs, 87, of Shawnee, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
Mrs. Toevs died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at her home, with family present.
She was born, Aug. 7, 1923, in Argentine, the daughter of Fred C. and Iva L. Adams.
She moved to Newton, where she married her high school sweetheart, Donald Toevs, on Feb. 18, 1944. She attended Bethel College in Newton.
After Mrs. Toevs’ children were raised, she worked for 19 years as a special education paraprofessional with the Kansas City, Kan., School District. She belonged to Jobs Daughters and Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing clothing for her children and giving 4-H sewing instruction.
She and her husband maintained contact with retired Washington High School staff and always enjoyed their get-togethers. Mrs. Toevs participated in a five-year breast cancer research project, STAR.
Survivors include her husband, Donald; five children: Susan (Rod) Anderson, Nancy (Jim) Snowberg, Fred (Yandell) Toevs, Peggy (Jake) Hess, and Julie Gaunce; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will precede the services, at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
