Services for Roland W. Garrett, 89, Shawnee, were Monday, July 19, at Shawnee United Methodist Church. Burial was in Shawnee Cemetery.
Mr. Garrett died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam.
He was born March 16, 1921, in Shawnee, the son of Floyd and Lulu (Gastl) Garrett. He was a 1939 graduate of the Shawnee Mission Rural High School and attended Kansas City Kansas Junior College. He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Garrett owned and operated, along with brothers, Howard and Gene, Garrett’s Food Market in Shawnee. He was a lifelong member of Shawnee United Methodist Church, American Legion Peter Smith Post 327 and was a member and served as captain of the Shawnee Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Norma (Henricks) Garrett; two daughters, Carolyn Sue (Ronald) Adams, Jefferson, Md., and Jackie L. (Michael) Swafford, Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Donald Gene (Susan) Garrett, Shawnee; two brothers, William M. Garrett, Shawnee, and Floyd Gene Garrett, Sabetha; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
