James Selzer
A memorial service for James O. Selzer, 61, Lee’s Summit, Mo., was held Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church, Independence, Mo. Mr. Selzer died May 23, 2010.
Mr. Selzer was born Sept. 26, 1948, in Lawrence. He grew up in Baldwin City and graduated from Baldwin High School. He also graduated from Baker University with a bachelor of science degree. He was a Fulbright Scholar and studied molecular biology in Germany for a year, the received his master’s degree in molecular biology from the University of Oregon. He later received his Juris Doctorate from Kansas University.
He worked at the firm of Stinson, Morrison and Hecker for 17 years and retired as managing partner of the practice division in 2009.
He was the International President of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, a member of the American Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association, served on the Board of Phoenix Family Funds and the Board of the National Kidney Foundation.
He was an Eagle Scout and worked with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church for 18 years.
Mr. Selzer is survived by his wife Barbara Selzer, of the home; two sons, Bryan Selzer and wife Amy, St. Louis, and Kevin Selzer, Denver; brothers David Selzer and wife Jeanne, Dallas, and Bob Selzer and wife Suzanne, Lenexa; and one grandson.
