Willard Belben
Services for Willard Charles “Bill” Belben, 78, Basehor, were Wednesday, June 16, at Elm Grove Baptist Church in Bonner Springs. Burial was in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens in Shawnee.
Mr. Belben died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
He was born on March 24, 1932, in Springfield, Mo.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had worked for more than 23 years as a guard at the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth. He retired in 1982 as a counselor.
Mr. Belben was a member of Basehor Lions Club and was a Fairmont Township volunteer firefighter n for many years. He collected model trains and enjoyed working in his garden.
A daughter-in-law, Shellie Belben, died in 2008.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie Belben, of the home; two children, Charles D. “Chuck” (Sherry) Belben, Kearney, Mo., and Tina Meadows, Parkville, Mo.; a sister, Christine Nelson, Chicago; and three grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Elm Grove Baptist Church, sent in care of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
