Marilyn Hardy

Mc Louth — Memorial services for Marilyn Jean Hardy, 74, McLouth, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Hardy died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence.
She was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Chicago, the daughter of Clarence and Martha Fellingham Haize. She graduated from Seneca Public High School and received a B.S. degree in 1959 from Kansas University. After graduate studies at KU, she earned an M.S. degree in 1978 from Emporia State University. She was a member of the KU Alumni Association Gold Medal Club, League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Woman USA, Girl Scout Advisory Council, Daughters of the American Revolution and United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie.
Mrs. Hardy was a high school home economics teacher for nearly 40 years in Tonganoxie, McLouth and Lansing. She sponsored award-winning pep clubs, cheerleading groups and a large Kayettes service organization. She staged fashion shows and home tours. Her students went on to national schools of design and headed university home economics departments. She was a counselor in the original Head Start program and was a member or officer in the American Home Economics Association, Kansas Vocational Association, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, KNEA and NEA.
In retirement, she belonged to quilting organizations and promoted traditional crafts such as rug making and was a member of several rug hooking groups in Kansas including the Wooly Hawks and the Association of Traditional Hooking Artists.
She married Donald H. Hardy on July 18, 1959, in Baldwin City. He survives in McLouth.
Other survivors include two children, David Hardy, Lawrence, and Karen Ye, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Ann Brooks, Edwardsville; and a granddaughter.
