Mass of Christian Burial for Andy C. Gensch Jr., 67, Shawnee, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.
Mr. Gensch died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 12, 1943, in Torrington, Conn., the son of Andy Sr. and Mary Gensch. He earned a business degree from New England College, where he was an all-star basketball player and continues to hold the college’s single-game scoring record. While at New England College, he met and married his wife of 46 years, Jo Anne Ciferri Gensch.
Mr. Gensch worked as a sales engineer with Timken Corp. for 43 years. His career took the family to several states across the country, and he developed lifelong friends from coast to coast.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne Ciferri Gensch; two children, Andrew C. Gensch,III and his wife, Gail, Overland Park, and Kimberly Gensch Jones and her husband, Mitchell, Washington, D.C.; two granddaughters; two sisters, Mary Ellen Gensch and Ann F. Gensch, both of Torrington, Conn., and Albert E. Gensch, North Babylon, N.Y.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral chapel, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.
